  • During our Christmas party, Katerina showed strong awareness and empathy by taking the lead in ensuring Oliver felt included and comfortable throughout the celebrations. This was entirely her own initiative. She noticed when Oliver was unsure or on the edges of activities and responded calmly and thoughtfully, helping him feel part of the group without drawing unnecessary attention to him. Katerina adapted activities so Oliver could take part in ways that suited him. She used gestures, modelling and patient waiting to communicate, showing an understanding that communication can take many forms. She listened carefully to others’ ideas and focused on what would work best for Oliver, rather than on her own preferences. Her openness and respect helped guide the group and created a supportive atmosphere for everyone involved. She demonstrated strong initiative and collaboration by encouraging others to include Oliver and by working positively with her peers. Katerina respected group decisions, shared responsibility and consistently prioritised the wellbeing of the group. When plans needed adjusting, she was flexible and willing to try different approaches, showing problem solving skills and confidence in unfamiliar situations. Katerina also showed resilience and persistence. When communication was challenging or when activities became busy and noisy, she remained patient and positive. She did not give up when inclusion required extra effort, instead adapting her approach and continuing to support Oliver throughout the event. This learning moment reflects Katerina’s developing sense of positive personal and social identity. She acted responsibly, humanely and with tolerance, demonstrating values that contribute to a respectful and inclusive school community. Her actions showed that leadership does not always come from giving instructions, but from noticing others and responding with care. This was a meaningful example of learning in action, where empathy, responsibility and inclusion were demonstrated naturally in a real life context.

That is lovely to hear. We know Katerina has a first hand understanding and being around people with different ways of communicating, expressing their needs and different abilities. However our experience of her interacting with these people is only with her sibling Mikiel. Therefore this is a very positive review which shows us parents that Katerina has an altruistic nature that extends beyond her actions within the family home. She enjoys helping out and making people feel good and included beyond her domestic expectations. We are proud of her and will continue to nurture and instill a caring and empathic nature in her. Thank you so much for this feedback.
