  • ‘I wanted to take the caterpillar to class as it would be fun to have as a class pet. It helped us learn by seeing it happen in real life. I realised it was at the last stage in the life cycle when we found it. Taking initiative helps me because I get stuff done fast so I can have time to do other things as well. It also helps me become more independent and not rely on others all the time.’

  • Ana is a sociable student who loves to participate in projects, develops ideas and negotiates implementation. She applies knowledge by testing solutions in real situations and also engages in actions to protect and improve the environment.
When we went on a field trip Ana, together with a friend, found a caterpillar and asked if we could have him as a class pet so that we can feed him and take care of him. They studied the life cycle of a butterfly in science so they could also observe this process in class.

  • Great initiative Ana! Keep up your enthusiasm and inquisitive nature which helps you understand the world around you, explore alternatives and check outcomes. The student showed an ability to take initiative whilst also demonstrating leadership skills. I will continue to encourage her to develop this skill further.
